The State Board of School Examinations, Tamil Nadu, is the primary authority responsible for conducting board examinations and awarding certificates to students in the state of Tamil Nadu. Established by the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Board was formed to streamline and unify the state's evaluation systems by merging the erstwhile Board of Secondary Education and the Board of Higher Secondary Examinations.

Functioning under the aegis of the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE), the Board ensures the standardized assessment of millions of students annually, serving as a pillar of the state's educational framework.

Key Functions & Responsibilities
The State Board handles a wide range of academic and administrative responsibilities:

Conducting Public Examinations:

SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate): Administering the Class 10th public board exams.

HSE (Higher Secondary Examination): Administering the Class 11th (+1) and Class 12th (+2) board exams for General and Vocational streams.

ESLC: Conducting examinations for private candidates (8th standard level).

Certification:

Issuing Mark Certificates which are vital documents for higher education admissions and career opportunities.

Providing duplicate certificates, migration certificates, and certified copies of mark sheets.

Scholarship Examinations:

Conducting talent search exams such as the NMMS (National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship), NTSE (National Talent Search Examination), and the Tamil Nadu Rural Students Talent Search Examination (TRUST).

Private Candidate Assessments:

Facilitating exams for private candidates who wish to clear SSLC or HSC papers without attending regular school, ensuring education is accessible to dropouts and adult learners.
